A La Jolla Beach Hotel Coming Soon

A longtime La Jolla beach local, the Cormorant Boutique Hotel started off in the mid 1940s as “The Prospect Market,” the only market of the beachfront community of La Jolla Village. In the 1960s, hotel rooms were added to the market and operated as the La Jolla Inn for several decades. Tired and outdated, in 2018 the property underwent a top to bottom renovation and transformed the inn into the fresh and modern Cormorant Boutique Hotel, featuring gorgeous panoramic ocean views on the remodeled rooftop. We’ve integrated the latest cutting-edge technology and paired it with a coastal-chic design, all while preserving the building’s connection to the past with an updated market and convenience store.

Why the Cormorant?

Amid the many sights and sounds of La Jolla Cove, you’ll discover the hotel’s namesake, the Brandt’s Cormorant, with its head thrown back and wings spread wide, soaking up the sun and ocean mist. Quiet but highly social, these marine birds are the original La Jolla beach locals. Just like our guests, these feathered visitors feel the continual pull of La Jolla’s shores and return year after year, always to the same nesting spot, to enjoy the best of San Diego beachfront’s crown jewel. We can’t imagine a more fitting name for our perch on historic Prospect Street.
